The League of Legends World Championship is the main event of the season and the most important milestone in the career of every pro player. Qualifying for Worlds requires overcoming a tough path, and not everyone makes it.

In 2024, 20 teams and 100 starting players will compete in the World Championship, but the professional League of Legends scene is much larger. Outside of the top 100 players of the season, there are many famous and star players who couldn't qualify for Worlds 2024. In this article, we’ll highlight these players and reveal the 10 big names who will miss this year’s championship.

10. Jankos

The LEC is one of the premier regions in League of Legends, filled with standout players with extensive international experience. Among them is ex-player Jankos.

Marcin Jankowski spent the 2024 season with the Spanish organization Heretics but failed to reach his full potential there. Over the year, Jankos and Heretics placed 7th twice (LEC Winter and LEC Summer) and 5th (LEC Spring 2024). This performance wasn't enough to secure a spot at Worlds 2024 through the LEC or even reach the regional finals.

The 2019 Mid-Season Invitational champion with G2 Esports and Worlds 2019 finalist will miss his second consecutive LoL World Championship, and it seems success won't come in the current Heretics lineup. Rumors suggest that Jankos and other Heretics players are already exploring new opportunities for their careers, and in 2025, we might see them under different banners.

9. Jensen

Another representative of Western League of Legends who we’d love to see at Worlds 2024 but won’t is Jensen. This Danish player is well-known to fans of professional LoL, having made a name for himself with multiple teams in Europe and America during his long career.

Jensen’s most notable achievements came during his time with C9, where he qualified for Worlds every year from 2015 to 2021. His greatest success was a top-4 finish at Worlds 2018.

In 2024, Jensen played for Team Dignitas in the LCS. Despite finishing 5th in the summer split, he couldn't qualify for another Worlds appearance.

8. Vulcan

Our list of star players missing Worlds 2024 includes many from Eastern regions like the LPL and LCK. However, the West also has its stars, and one of them is Vulcan.

Canadian Philippe Laflamme is a familiar face to North American League of Legends fans. In 2024, Vulcan played as a support for Cloud9, the formerly dominant team in the LCS. However, nothing lasts forever in competitive League, and 2024 turned out to be a failure for C9. They finished 4th in the LCS Summer 2024, missing the World Championship for the first time since 2021.

For Vulcan, Worlds 2024 could have been his 4th appearance in the series. Whether he will continue playing for C9 after Worlds 2024 is unclear, especially with his former teammate Berserker leaving C9 after the 2024 season.

7. Canna

South Korea is like the Mecca of League of Legends, producing a steady stream of star players. One of the most promising “rookies” of professional LoL who won't attend Worlds 2024 is Canna.

The top-laner has previously competed in the LoL World Championships with prestigious teams like T1 and DPlus KIA. In 2021, Canna finished top-4 with T1 and later placed top-11 with DPlus KIA.

In 2024, Canna played for Karmine Corp, one of Europe’s most prominent teams, but he couldn't help them qualify for the biggest tournament of the year. KC, with Canna in the lineup, finished last in LEC Winter and LEC Spring, and managed only 4th place in LEC Summer 2024, which wasn't enough.

It's hard to predict where the talented top-laner will land in 2025, but his departure from Karmine Corp seems almost certain.

6. Rookie

If you've followed the League of Legends esports scene even a little, you’ve probably heard the nickname Rookie. This LPL player is synonymous with the idea of a top-tier Midlanerf.

Song Eui-jin, a South Korean native, gained international fame playing in the LPL. After going through KT Rolster’s academy, Rookie joined Invictus Gaming, with whom he became a World Champion in 2018. Since then, Rookie has consistently performed well, but he hasn't reached the same heights as in 2018, and won’t in 2024, as he’ll miss Worlds 2024.

In 2024, Rookie joined Ninjas in Pyjamas, becoming a clear asset. Thanks to his contributions, NiP finished top-4 twice in the LPL (LPL Spring 2024 and Regional Finals 2024), but this wasn’t enough to qualify for the year’s main event.

5. BeryL

LCK boasts a wealth of top players, but few command as much attention as BeryL. This support player has already made a name for himself as a two-time World Champion with DAMWON Gaming (Worlds 2020) and DRX (Worlds 2022).

In 2024, BeryL played for the legendary KT Rolster team. KT Rolster finished 5th in both the LCK Spring 2024 and LCK Summer 2024, and in the final challenge — facing T1 in the LCK Regional Finals 2024—BeryL and his team fell 2-3 to their eternal rivals, missing Worlds 2024.

It's hard to say what the future holds for KT Rolster’s star-studded lineup in 2025 or if BeryL will be part of it. However, he will almost certainly continue playing in pursuit of his third World Championship title.

4. Bdd

Another KT Rolster player and one of the most prominent midlaners in the LCK and professional League of Legends as a whole. A multiple-time Worlds participant, he reached top-8 at Worlds 2017, 2020, and 2023, and top-4 at Worlds 2021.

Despite his accolades, Bdd and his star teammates, including BeryL, fell just short of qualifying for his 5th World Championship. Bdd gave his all, earning MVP eight times playing for KT Rolster in the LCK Summer 2024 group stage and once in the summer playoffs.

3. Ruler

When discussing star League of Legends players, and especially true legends of Riot Games' MOBA, Ruler must be mentioned. One of the brightest bot-laners in the LPL will miss Worlds 2024.

Park Jae-hyuk gained fame playing for prestigious Eastern teams. Ruler has successfully competed in both the LCK and LPL, solidifying his status as a top player.

Ruler’s professional career began in 2016 when he qualified for Worlds with Samsung Galaxy. Not only did he qualify, but he reached the grand final, where his team battled SK Telecom T1. The following year, in 2017, Ruler and Samsung Galaxy won the World Championship. After his 2017 triumph, Ruler missed only one World Championship, in 2019, and now Worlds 2024.

2. Deft

Another legend missing Worlds 2024 is Deft, and he truly deserves the title of legend. Consider this.

He started his career in 2013, and by his second year, he reached the top-4 at Worlds. Over the next two years, he finished top-8 twice before returning to Worlds in 2018, again reaching the top-8. He missed Worlds 2019 but didn’t miss a single one until 2024.

In 2022, Deft, alongside BeryL on DRX, shocked the world by winning the World Championship after a grueling journey through the LCK Regional Finals, Play-Ins, and eventually triumphing in the grand final against the legendary T1.

In 2023, Deft was the central figure in the Worlds 2023 trailer, underscoring his significance on the pro scene.

In 2024, Deft ended the season empty-handed. Along with KT Rolster, they lost the crucial match against T1.

Kim Hyuk-kyu has taken breaks from his career before, and it seems that in 2024, his playing career may come to an end. The bot-laner plans to enlist in the army, which will keep him off the scene for at least a year.й

1. Scout

Perhaps the biggest absence from Worlds 2024 is Scout. LNG Esports ’ mid-laner qualified for the World Championship by winning the LPL Regional Finals 2024. However, Scout cannot leave the country due to a legal dispute with his former team, EDward Gaming, with whom he won the 2021 championship.

Yagao from JD Gaming is expected to replace Scout. Despite Yagao’s high level of play, this is still a downgrade, as Scout has been playing with LNG since the beginning of 2023 and helped the team reach the top-8 at Worlds. Scout himself has played at Worlds multiple times and was crowned champion, as mentioned earlier.
